포르투갈의 아베이루시는 최근 기존의 산업 지대에서 물과 어우러진 새로운 풍경으로 변모했다.
2005년 시작된 ‘폴리스 아베이루’ 도시화 프로젝트는 도시와 그 주변 환경에서 삶의 질을 향상시키는 것을 주된 목표로 삼았다.
이 계획의 핵심 목표 중 하나는 보행자 친화적이고 접근성이 높은 도시를 조성하는 것이었으며
이는 자동차 의존도를 줄이고 건강하고 활발한 생활 방식을 장려하는 데 기여했다.
또한 도시 환경에 녹색 공간과 생물 다양성을 통합함으로써 지속 가능한 개발과 환경 보존을 촉진하고자 했다.
이 과정에는 새로운 공원과 정원의 조성, 자연 서식지 복원, 그리고 지속 가능한 도시 설계 방식 도입이 포함되었다.
특히 염전과 리아 데 아베이로 지역은 과거, 특히 1980년대까지 산업 생산의 영향을 받았던 곳으로
소금 채취와 ‘몰리수(해초)’ 채집, 폐수 이동 경로로 이용되며 그 모습이 크게 변화했다.
하지만 결과적으로 이러한 변화는 긍정적인 방향으로 이어졌다.
현재 건물들은 도시 서쪽 가장자리에 위치한 리아를 마주 보는 유리한 입지에 자리 잡고 있다.
도시화 프로젝트의 일환으로 수변 지역의 활용을 제한하고 각 건물의 규모와 위치를 신중히 계획했다.
건물들은 땅에서 떠오른 형태로 설계되어 공공 공간을 확보하고 운하와 자연스럽게 연결되는 시야를 제공한다.
구조적으로는 빛과 조화를 이루는 목재 매스를 지지하는 흰색 콘크리트 구조로 설계되었으며, 주거 공간은 총 3층으로 구성되어 있다.
Recently, the city of Aveiro was turned from the landscape of urban industry to that of water. The urbanization plan
“Polis Aveiro” which started in 2005, aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the city and its surroundings.
One of the main goals was to create a pedestrian-friendly and accessible city. This has helped reduce car use, and encourage a healthier and more active lifestyle.
It also aimed to promote sustainable development and environmental protection by integrating green spaces and biodiversity
into urban landscape. This included the creation of new parks and gardens, the restoration of natural habitats,
and the implementation of sustainable urban design practices. The salt pans and the Ria de Aveiro were affected by
industrial production especially until the 1980s. For the production of salt, the collection of ‘moliço(seaweed)’
and the careless use of its channels as wastewater conductors of the region’s industry, everything has changed, however, for the better.
The building is now positioned in a privileged location facing the Ria, on the western edge of the city.
The design team decided to qualify the waterfront of the city and to define this building’s volume and position.
Its volume rises from the ground to free public space, and anticipate eye contact with the canals. The
building has a white concrete structure supporting wood volumes that seek the light and the landscape, and the residential space consists of three floors.
