엘판트 카페 & 바는 18세기로 거슬러 올라가는 헬싱키의 유서 깊은 토리코르텔리트 지역에 자리하고 있다.
이곳은 헬싱키 대성당, 대통령궁, 시립박물관, 크루즈 터미널과 같은 상징적인 건축물들 사이에 다양한 부티크, 카페, 미슐랭 레스토랑이 어우러진 문화적 중심지다.
주변의 풍부한 역사와 활기찬 커뮤니티에서 영감을 받은 야토푸는 독특하면서도 참신한 인테리어 디자인을 통해 지역적 가치와의 조화를 추구했다.
그들은 헬싱키의 옛 도심에 새로운 창조적 에너지를 불어넣고 핀란드 현대 디자인의 잠재력을 탐구할 수 있도록 엘판트 카페 & 바를 재탄생시켰다.
야토푸는 엘판트를 ‘현지 생산’의 가치를 반영하는 동굴 같은 콘셉트로 설계했다.
내부 공간에는 북핀란드산 단단한 소나무가 맞춤형 가구 자재로 사용되었다.
핀란드의 오랜 장인정신을 반영한 소나무 사용은 건축자재로서 오랜 명성을 지니고 있다.
젊은 현지 장인들과 협력하여 ‘현지인들로부터, 사랑으로’라는 가치의 독창적인 해석을 통해 콘셉트의 핵심을 구현하였다.
엘판트는 음식, 커피, 와인을 중심으로 사람들이 모여 아이디어를 나눌 수 있는 편안하고 현대적인 분위기를 제공한다.
엘판트는 효율적인 공간 구성으로 공간 시퀀스를 연출하도록 설계되었다.
차가운 아연도금 강판과 동굴 같은 손으로 발라진 벽 사이의 자재와 질감의 충돌이 조화를 이루며 각기 뚜렷하게 드러난다.
핀란드 소나무로 제작된 맞춤형 바 테이블과 의자 세트는 채도가 높은 토마토 적색 염료로 처리되어 대담한 현대적 태도를 드러내고, 나뭇결의 본연의 특성을 살린다.
야토푸는 핀란드의 젊은 장인들과 협력하여 현지 자원 조달과 생산의 새로운 가능성을 탐색한다.
현대 디자인을 전통적 자재와 방법과 결합하여 ‘맥락에서 영감을 얻은’ 창조적 해석을 통해 옛것과 새것 사이에서 새로운 형태가 탄생할 수 있음을 보여준다.
El Fant Café & Bar is located in Torikorttelit, a historic area in the center of Helsinki’s old town that can be traced back to the 18th century.
The area is a hub of iconic architecture and cultural destination, with a variety of boutiques, cafes and Michelin restaurants scattered amongst
famous monuments such as the Helsinki Cathedral, Presidential Palace, City Museum, and Cruise Terminal.
Inspired by the abundant history and vibrant community energy of El Fant’s surroundings, Yatofu intended to keep the balance between the novelty of a
unique interior concept and the local values. They proposed to recreate El Fant Café & Bar as a destination which would not only inject more creative
energy into Helsinki’s old town, but also investigate the unique potential of contemporary Finnish design.
Yatofu reflected on the values of ‘local production’ in its cavernous concept for El Fant. In the interior space, local solid pine from Northern Finland for the
custom furniture was used. The use of pine as a long-lasting building material has been a long-revered practice in Finnish craftsmanship.
Collaborating with young local craftsmen, Yatofu embraced the core spirit of the concept embodied through the authentic and unique
interpretation of a widely shared value: “from locals, with love”. El Fant provides a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere for people and ideas to gather around food, coffee and wine.
