코코넛과 야자수가 풍성하게 자라난 깊은 숲과 산의 푸른 파노라마를 자랑하는 이 부지는 특별한 지형이나 경관이 없는 평지에 위치한다.
주거 공간을 포함하여 약 48,500㎡의 평평한 주변 환경 덕분에 자연을 존중하는 독창적인 건물이 탄생했다.
설계팀은 건물의 25%에 집중하고 75%는 자연과의 조화를 염두에 두어 디자인을 시작했다.
나무를 심는 것도 중요하지만, 자연과 어떻게 상호 작용하는지가 더 중요한 요소였다.
이에 따라 탄소 배출을 감소시키는 시공 기술에 주력했다.
두께가 약 11㎝인 외피에는 인도의 전통인 석회 석고 층이 외부에, 진흙 석고 층이 내부에 배치되어 있으며, 아치 형태를 이루고 있다.
자립 구조로서 기둥이나 빔이 필요 없으며, 바닥엔 매끄럽게 흘러가고 가구는 화려함을 더한다.
이런 디자인은 실내 온도를 외부보다 약간 낮추는 데 기여한다.
높이 230㎝ 정도의 녹색 경관은 풍성하게 자란 잔디로 구조물을 감싸며 습도가 높은 지역에서 공간 내부의 온도를 낮추고 구조물의 일부분이 된다.
접히고 흐르는 유동적인 형태를 설계팀은 접이식 건축이라고 부른다.
이 2BHK 농가의 각 공간은 새로운 경험으로 가득하며, 원형으로 변화하는 영역은 공간에 대한 호기심을 유발한다.
접힘과 곡선은 마치 야생의 동굴로 들어가는 듯한 느낌을 준다.
With a verdant panoramic view of the mountains and deep woods of coconut and palm trees, the site lays plain with no special characters
of terrain or landscape. The surrounding environs about 12acres including site of house are plain. This led to create an interesting
building which should respect nature. The design team started their design focusing on 25% on construction and 75% on nature.
Planting trees is important, but how to respond to the nature is more important. So, they focused on the construction technique which would reduce the carbon emission.
This self-sustaining 4½ inch shell bends and flows with the series of arches with the layers of plaster on
the outside and mud on the inside. Being a self-sustaining structure, it has no columns or beams. Traditional lime
plasters from India flows along smoothly on the floor and the furniture gives a luxuriant feel inside the spaces. This helps in
reducing the temperature of about 3 degrees inside the space from the outside. 7½ft tall verdant landscape hugs the structure
with lush grown grass all around. Being the high humid area, this helps in reducing the temperature inside the space, and
also acts as a structural member for the structure. The design team calls this structure which folds and flows in a fluidic form as “fold architecture”.
