센다이에 위치한 퍼언 오스트 갤러리(FERN OST GALERIE)는 일본의 최첨단 브랜드를 중심으로 한 여성 의류 전문점으로,

독창적인 지역적 가치를 반영한 빈티지 의상과 현대적인 의상을 선보이고 있다. 디렉터 미조구치 츠바사가 셀렉트한 브랜드들은,

1940년대 센다이를 방문해 산업통상자원부 공예지도소를 자문했던 디자이너 샤를로트 페리앙처럼 ‘강인한 내면을 가진’ 여성을 위해 디자인된 것이 특징이다.

매장은 르 코르뷔지에의 철학과 닿아 있는 상업적 모더니즘 건물의 배경 속에서, 산업적이면서도 인간미를 담은 가구 배치를 통해 공간의 콘셉트를 더욱 확립하고 있다.

매장은 공간 활용성과 효율성을 극대화하고 직원들이 혼자서도 매장을 원활히 운영할 수 있도록 모든 방해 요소를 배제하는 것을 목표로 했다.

이를 위해 설계팀은 모더니즘 건축 요소인 기둥, 강철 창틀, 천장 마감의 변주에서 영감을 받아, 기둥의 연속성을 활용해 칸막이를 사용하지 않고도 공간을 자연스럽게 구분하는 디자인 방식을 택했다.

매장 중앙에는 부메랑 형태의 테이블이 상징적으로 배치되었으며, 이는 과거 도면, 사진,

관련 건축 디테일을 참고해 새롭게 제작된 청사진을 바탕으로 가구 장인이 완성한 작품이다.

그 뒤편에는 금속 장인이 알루미늄 소재로 재구현한 치가이 다나 양식의 벽 선반이 자리잡고 있다.

이러한 가구 배치와 조화를 이루며 강렬한 존재감을 발하는 옷들은 마치 새로운 가구처럼 공간과 빈티지 가구 사이에서 공존한다.

궁극적으로 시간이 흐르며 그 옷들이 빈티지 자체로 변모할 가능성을 상상하게 한다.

정교한 가구 창작을 통해 미래를 모색하는 이러한 접근법은 바로 설계팀 철학의 핵심이 되었다.

Located in Sendai, FERN OST GALERIE is a women’s specialty shop that carries cutting-edge Japanese brands

and features vintage and contemporary clothing with unique sense and local values.

The brands selected by the director Tsubasa Mizoguchi are all designed for women with a “strong core”.

just like Charlotte Perriand, who came to Sendai in the 1940s to advise the Ministry of Trade and Industryʼs

Craft Guidance Institute. The storeʼs concept is further solidified with the placement of furniture that is industrial yet charming

with a human touch, in a commercial modernist building consistent with the philosophy of Le Corbusier.

In order to use the space flexibly and allow staff members to operate the store alone, it was necessary that the entire space

could be seen without any obstructions. The design team therefore created a plan to establish different zones without using

any partition walls, through the continuity of pillars inspired by elements of modernist architecture such as columns, steel sashes, and variations in ceiling finishes.

The symbolically placed boomerang table was reconstructed by furniture craftsman based on a blueprint created by referencing past

drawings, photographs, and details of relevant architecture. Behind it, a wall shelf in the style of a “CHIGAI-DANA”

was reconstructed in aluminum by metal craftsmen. How will the garments, with their strong presence, appear as these new

pieces of furniture, coexisting with vintage furniture in the same space, eventually become vintage themselves?

Imagining the future through the creation of well-crafted furniture thus became the design team’s philosophy.
