카타야노칸 라이투리(Katajanokan Laituri)는 핀란드의 현대 목재 건축을 잘 보여주는 최신 사례입니다.
이 건물은 안티넨 오이바 건축사무소에서 설계했으며, 전통적인 자재에 지속 가능한 시공 방식을 결합하여 지어졌습니다.
방문객을 위한 카페와 레스토랑, 다목적 비즈니스 공간, 164개 객실의 호텔, 그리고 핀란드 임업 회사 스토라 엔소의 본사를 갖추고 있습니다.
4층 규모의 이 목조 건물은 헬싱키의 마켓광장과 인근 건물 사이에 위치하고 있으며, 이 지역은 전통과 미래가 만나는 장소로, 옛 항구의 재정비로 인해 큰 변화를 겪고 있습니다.
또한, 알바 알토가 설계한 스토라 엔소 본사와 카를 루드비히 엥겔이 설계한 상징적인 역사 건물 등을 포함하고 있습니다.
설계팀은 이 지역의 역사를 존중하며, 역사적 환경에서 차분한 존재감을 드러내면서 주민과 방문객에게 매력적인 공간을 제공하는 것을 목표로 삼았습니다.
안티넨 오이바 건축사무소의 셀리나 안티넨은 이 새로운 건물이 이제 헬싱키 해안선의 일부가 되었다고 언급했습니다.
프로젝트의 두 번째 목표는 소유주인 보험사 바르마와 스토라 엔소의 환경 가치와 기후 목표를 만족시키는 것입니다.
이들은 오래 지속되며 유연성을 갖춘, 재생 가능한 자재로 지어진 건축물을 원했습니다.
설계팀은 북유럽의 특성을 살리며 인상적인 목재 구조를 통해 이 목표를 이루었습니다.
건물에는 총 7600㎥의 목재가 사용됐으며, 약 2500개의 목재 요소가 교차적층목과 단판적층재로 만들어졌습니다.
내부 또한 북유럽 자연을 강하게 느낄 수 있는 목재로 구성되어 있으며, 중앙에 위치한 둥근 천창이 달린 홀은 목재 벤치와 함께 목재의 아름다움을 강조합니다.
외관 디자인을 위해 개발된 특별한 이중 레이어 방법에서는 유리, 금속, 천연석 등이 외부에 활용되고, 내부에는 목재가 사용됐습니다.
안티넨은 이중 레이어 방식은 해양 환경에서 기술적으로 적합한 방법이었다고 설명했습니다.
주변 석조 환경과 조화로운 외부 보호층은 흰색 금속판, 천연석, 유리로 구성됐다.
이 디자인은 시대에 따라 변모하며 다른 시대의 건물들과 잘 어우러진다고 덧붙였습니다.
Katajanokan Laituri is the latest example of new-generation Finnish wood construction.
This building designed by Anttinen Oiva Architects uses pioneering architectural and manufacturing methods combined
with traditional and sustainable materials. The eye-catching wooden building houses the head office of Finnish forestry company
Stora Enso and a hotel with 164 rooms including cafe and restaurant facilities open to the public and office facilities suitable for a wide range of businesses.
The four-story wooden building is located in Finland’s historical center Helsinki’s iconic Market Square and its surrounding buildings.
The area is going through a massive transformation, as the old port functions are partly moving away and the shoreline gradually
opens to pedestrians. There are the old head office of Stora Enso designed by Alvar Aalto and the iconic buildings of Helsinki’s historical center designed by Carl Ludvig Engel.
The design team aimed at creating a calm presence in the historical milieu and an interesting new environment for locals and visitors.
“This new building is now part of Helsinki’s maritime skyline.” says Selina Anttinen, architect and partner at Anttinen Oiva Architects.
