아테네를 기점으로 활동하는 SAINT OF ATHENS는 그리스에서 가장 많은 관광객이 모여드는 여름철
관광 도시 중 하나인 미코노스에 이탈리아의 주얼리 브랜드 가벨로(GAVELLO) 매장을 설계했다.
그리스에서 미코노스와 같이 아름다운 대도시는 엄격한 전통과 강요된 사치의 양극에 자체적으로 갇히는 경향이 있다.
따라서 설계팀은 빤하거나 과하지 않은 접점의 디자인을 만들어야만 했다.
다행히도 설계팀은 창의적이고 심미적인 아이디어로 섬의 전형적인 고정관념을 뛰어넘는 디자인을 제시했다.
최고급 매장을 위한 실내수영장 콘셉트는 주얼리에 어울리는 현대적이고 기발한 전개를 선사하는 은유적인 표현이라고 할 수 있다.
SAINT OF ATHENS와 Dive Architects가 함께 완성한 가벨로 넬 블루(GAVELLO nel blu)는 전형적인 키클라데스 제도의 매장들과 마찬가지로,
실내수영장 안에 자리한 주얼리매장이다. 연한 파란색 타일, 비치볼, 줄무늬 깔개,
사물함, 벽면의 수영장 사다리 등은 친숙한 분위기를 연출하고, 간접적으로 여름 느낌을 조성한다.
거울, 쿠션, 진열장, 그리고 누군가 자신의 타올을 걸지도 모르는 진열용 원뿔과 원기둥은 실용적인 요소일 뿐 아니라 수영장 콘셉트의 특징을 강조하는 개념적인 소품들이다.
시원하면서도 고급스러운 이미지를 풍기면서도 어쩐지 귀여운 느낌마저 든다.
한쪽 벽면의 벽감 네 개가 선형의 LED 조명을 내장한 진열장으로 꾸며졌으며, 매장 중앙에서 전체 내부공간을 지배하는 직사각형 테이블에도 제품이 진열되어 있다.
그리 넓지 않은 면적의 공간임에도, 뛰어난 독창성을 보여주는 인테리어디자인과 화려한 제품을 진열하기 위한 완전히 새로운
시장 환경을 표현하기에 충분했다.
전혀 특별하지 않은 평범한 소재를 쓰더라도 그것을 어떻게 표현해내느냐가 곧 중요한 것이라는 당연한 진리를 다시금 깨닫게끔 만드는 공간이다.
Athens-based SAINT OF ATHENS has designed a store of an Italian jewelry brand GAVELLO store in Mykonos,
one of Greece’s most tourist cities in the summer. In Greece, cosmopolitan and picturesque places like Mykonos tend to trap
themselves in a dipole of rigid tradition VS forced extravagance. Therefore, the design team had to create neither too obvious nor excessive design.
Fortunately, they presented a design that goes beyond the typical stereotypes of the island with creative and aesthetic ideas.
The concept of an indoor pool for the high-end store can be a metaphorical expression that provides a modern and ingenious development suitable for jewelry.
Completed by SAINT OF ATHENS and Dive Architects, GAVELLO nel blu is a jewelry store located within an indoor pool, just like typical Cycladic stores.
Light blue tiles, beach balls, striped bolsters, lockers, and pool ladders on the wall create a familiar atmosphere,
and a summer feeling indirectly. Mirrors, cushions, display cases, and display cones and cylinders that someone may hang their
towels are not only practical elements but also conceptual props that emphasize the pool concept. It has a cool yet luxurious image, but somehow it looks cute.
