로코 콘도미니엄 / Rokko Condominium
이 콘도미니엄은 고베의 구릉지대에 위치한다.
바다가 내려다보이는 발코니를 가지고 있으며 한 객실의 면적이 약 150㎡로 규모가 크다.
설계팀은 개조에 앞서 고급 자재부터 마련하여 마감 작업을 진행했다.
그러나 건축주는 통칭 ‘고급 콘도’라는 건물 외관을 바꾸고자 했다.
설계팀은 어떻게 하면 공간이 쿠키 커터(Cookie Cutter, 쿠키 모양을 만드는 도구) 같은 형태에서 벗어날 수 있을지 탐구함으로써 설계를 시작했다.
설계팀의 해결 방안은 구조적인 뼈대와 상관없는 곡면 벽을 공간에 끼워 넣는 것이었다.
그 결과, 아파트에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 큰 기둥과 보의 기초가 되는 골격이 드러나지 않는 생활공간을 만들 수 있었다.
이러한 호형(弧形)의 벽면으로 둘러싸인 각 공간은 주방, 거실, 침실 등의 기능을 가지고 있지만 다른 공간들과 단절되지 않는다.
대신 그들 사이에 모호한 연결성을 남긴다.
공간은 거주자들이 시간 보내길 원하는 곳 어디에든 서거나 의자를 놓을 수 있도록 배치되었다.
이곳엔 직선이 없기 때문에 시각적 인상도 매우 부드러워져 평온한 생활공간을 조성한다.
This condominium is in a hilly area of Kobe, with a balcony overlooking the ocean.
The unit is large with the area about 150㎡, and prior to renovation,
the design team has furnished and finished with quality materials. However, the client wanted to alter its generic “high-end condo” appearance.
The design team began by exploring how to break down the cookie-cutter atmosphere.
The design team’s solution was to weave curved walls through the unit without relation to its structural framework,
creating a living space that does not suggest the underlying skeleton of large posts and beams often seen in apartments.
Each space enclosed by these arcs has a function such as kitchen, living room,
or bedroom but is not cut off from the other spaces; instead, ambiguous connections remain between them.
The layout is designed so that residents can stand or set a chair anywhere they wish to spend time.
Because there are no straight lines, the visual impression is very soft, resulting in a serene living space.
