도트 커피스테이션 #1은 베사랍스카광장과 접한 키예프 중심가에 있다.
이곳은 다양한 생활들이 교차하는 활기찬 지점이다.
날이 밝으면 상인들은 서둘러 키예프 최대의 유개(有蓋) 시장 베사랍스카로 모이고, 사무직 종사자들은 근처의 화려한 사무실 건물을 향해 달려간다.
낮에는 그곳에서 시간을 보내고 있는 많은 외국인들뿐 아니라 모퉁이에 있는 현대미술관에 줄을 서 있는 젊은이들을 볼 수 있다.
마치 한 사람 한 사람이 점처럼, 도시 곳곳에 찍혀있다.
픽셀은 모든 이미지의 시작점이다.
YOD Design Group은 점을 통합한 벽의 모자이크 픽셀을 중심으로 공간을 설계했다.
픽셀아트 속에 숨겨진 메시지를 의도적으로 전달하기보다는, 보다 진실하면서도 직관적인 것을 만드는 데 집중했다.
도트 그래픽은 혼란과 불안을 느끼는 대도시 거주자들에게 순수한 감정을 전달한다.
텍스트가 적힌 두루마리 스크린은 공간에 역동성과 리듬을 가미한다.
투명한 외관은 카페를 도시의 일부처럼 보이게 만든다.
설계팀은 도시의 에너지가 스며들도록 일반적인 문 대신에 유리 미닫이문을 달았고, 공간의 접대성을 강조하기 위해 전면을 완전히 개방했다.
카페인을 섭취하고 싶은 고객은 그저 몇 계단만 오르면 된다.
설계팀은 계단과 실내 벽면 일부를 흰색 모자이크 타일로 마감했다.
나머지 벽면은 1900년에 세워진 건물의 가치를 머금은 낡은 벽돌을 고스란히 노출시켰다.
카페의 천장고는 475㎝다. 빛으로 가득한 높은 공간이 필요했기에 좌석을 배치한 메자닌을 설치하지 않았다.
도트 커피스테이션에는 두 개의 작은 테이블과 손님이 앉을 벤치가 있는 벽감이 있다.
카페 옆 건물 정면에도 거대한 벤치가 있다.
카운터와 벤치에 사용된 목재는 오래전 헛간에서 사용됐던 낡은 들보이다.
이는 스테인리스스틸로 만들어진 완벽하고 차가운 요소와 대비되면서도, 자신만의 이야기를 들려주는 소재이다.
DOT Coffee Station #1 is located in central street of Kyiv that borders Bessarabska Square. It is a vibrant spot where different dimensions of Kyiv life are crossing.
In the sun-up, juicy sellers are hurrying up to the biggest Kyiv roofed market Bessarabska, while white collars are running toward the shining office building nearby.
In the daytime, here we can see not only a lot of foreigners who are hanging out but also some intellectual youngsters who
are standing in line at the modern art museum at the corner. Each person is dotted all over the city like dots.
The pixel is the starting point of every image.
YOD Design Group designed the space centering around the mosaic pixel art on the wall that incorporates the dots.
They deliberately focused not to convey any hidden message in this picture, but to create something weird,
sincere and universal. The graphic in DOT conveys pure emotion to the metropolis inhabitant who feel confusion and anxiety.
A narrow screen with scrolling text adds the dynamics and the rhythm to the space.
The cafe comes as a part of the city by means of its transparent facade.
The design team have replaced a general door with glass sliding doors that let the energy of the city seep through.
They have totally opened the facade to emphasize the hospitality of the space. Only a few steps makes a customer have a desirable dose of caffeine.
Stairs and partial wall surface inside the café are covered with white mosaic tiles.
Other walls show the bare bricks that emphasize the value of the building erected in 1900.
The height of the ceiling in DOT is 475㎡.
The design team needed to get a high space filled with light, so they discarded the idea of building the mezzanine with seating places.
