블루보틀 커피 교토 카페 Blue Bottle Coffee Kyoto Cafe
설계팀은 그들이 설계한 Blue Bottle Coffee 매장의 모든 것을 위한 디자인콘셉트에 초점을 맞추어
미국 서부 해안 문화를 담고 있는 Blue Bottle Coffee를 교토의 난젠지(南禪寺)로 가는 접근로에
위치한 전통적인 목조주택 마치야(町屋)에 통합시킴으로써 전체 공간에 걸쳐 평등한 관계를 조성하였다.
일본 전통 건축의 특징적인 양식에 따라 땅에서 50㎝ 높였던 기존의 바닥은, 마당 높이에 맞게 헐어 새롭게 바뀌었다.
마당에 깔린 자갈을 시각적으로 실내까지 이어지게 하기 위해서 같은 형태의 자갈이 섞인 테라조로 바닥을 마감하였다.
카운터 안쪽의 바닥도 다른 매장과 동일한 콘셉트를 따라 고객과 직원 간의 눈높이를 유지하기 위해서 고객영역과 수평을 맞추면서 일본 문화와 미국 문화를 하나로 통합하였다.
테라조는 바닥의 역할을 할 뿐 아니라 그 자체를 높여서 곳곳에 카운터와 테이블과 벤치가 되기도 했다.
이어지는 백색의 바닥으로 불필요한 모든 요소들을 제거하고 구조를 통해 본래의 지붕구조와 흙벽을 노출시키는
기존 마감재를 벗겨냄으로써, 대, 중, 소 공간 전체에 걸쳐 있는 100년 역사의 흔적을 보여준다.
원래 두 동으로 구성되었던 마치야는 각기 카페 빌딩과 MD(Merchandise) 빌딩으로 개조되었다.
2층 공간엔 아래층과 위층의 시각적 연결성을 유지하지 위해 불필요한 모든 벽체가 철거되고 유리로 마감된 사무실이 자리한다.

located along the approach way to Nanzenji
Temple in Kyoto, we continued to focus on our design
concept for all of the Blue Bottle Coffee shops we designed, which is to ‘create equal relationships’ throughout the space.
The existing floor, raised 50㎝ above the ground conforming to a characteristic style of traditional Japanese architecture
was demolished to make a new floor level with the ground. In order to visually continue the pebbled ground into the interior
terrazzo containing the same type of pebbles as the ground was used to finish the floor.
The floor inside the counter is also level with the customer area to maintain the same eye level between customers and
staff following the same concept as the other shops, while integrating Japanese and American cultures at the same time.
The terrazzo floor not only serves as a floor but also elevates itself in some places to form counters, tables and benches.
The continuous white floor is stripped of all unnecessary things and the structure is stripped of existing finishes to expose the
original roof structure and clay walls, and one can see traces of its100-year old history throughout the large
medium and small spaces in the structure. The Machiya was originally composed of two buildings, which were respectively
renovated into a cafe building and MD building this time. The second floor space accommodates the office
where all unnecessary walls are removed and is covered with glass to maintain visual connections between the lower and upper floors.
