오둔파자리 현대미술관 Odunpazari Modern Art Museum

오둔파자리는 터키 북서부 에스키셰히르 지방의 중심지구다.
신도시와 전통적인 목조주택이 함께 풍경을 이루는 이곳은 과거 목재를 거래하는 시장이 존재했던 곳이다.
‘오둔파자리’라는 지명 자체도 ‘목재시장’이라는 뜻으로, 지역의 역사와 추억을 담고 있다.
오둔파자리 현대미술관은 예술품 수집가이자 사업가인 에롤 타반카(Erol Tabanca)가 본인이 소장하고 있는 터키 현대예술작품을 전시하기 위해 계획한 공간이다.
그는 터키 예술을 향상시키고 지역 문화에 공헌하겠다는 야심을 이 프로젝트에 담았다.
에스키셰히르는 그가 태어나고 자란 곳이기도 하다.
Kengo Kuma and Associates는 오둔파자리의 역사와 문화, 사람들, 거리 풍경에서 깊은 영감을 받았다.
이들은 오둔파자리의 풍경을 형성하는 전통 목조주택들을 주목했다.
위층이 캔틸레버 식인 목조주택들은 구불거리는 좁은 길을 따라 줄지어져 있어 독특하고 생경한 경치를 만들어낸다.
특색 있는 거리 풍경을 건축디자인에 반영하기로 한 건축팀은 박스를 겹겹이 쌓아 올린 모양의 대규모 건축물을 구상했다.
지면과 맞닿아있는 1층 공간은 대규모 예술작품과 설치작품을 전시하기 위한 넓은 공간으로, 소형의 친근한 예술품들을 전시할 상층부는 점점 작아지도록 설계했다.
쌓여진 박스들은 여러 가지 크기로 디자인되어 건물 내부에 다양한 규모의 전시공간을 구성한다.
천창을 통해 들어오는 햇빛은 나누어진 각각의 층을 하나로 연결하며 예술품들을 비춘다.
지역의 역사가 디자인으로 해석된 오둔파자리 현대미술관은 사람과 예술 사이의 연결고리가 되어, 에스키셰히르 지역의 새로운 랜드마크로 모습을 드러내고 있다.
Odunpazari is situated at the threshold of newly developed urban area and small scale town scape of traditional wooden houses.
The name of this area “Odunpazari” means “wood market” in Turkish. The exterior envelop of the museum is composed
with timber in full extent signifying the history and memory of the place that used to function as market in trading wood.
Odunpazari Modern Art Museum is to exhibit the owner’s collection of Turkish modern art.
The Museum is planned in the city of Eskisehir where the owner was born and raised.
The project is to realize the owner’s ambition to promote Turkish art and to make cultural contribution to the city of Eskisehir.
Architects paid attention to the traditional wooden houses the landscape of Odunpazari.
Their design strategy is to make the volume in aggregation; stacking small boxes to create the urban scale architecture.
The stacked and interlocked boxes are designed in various sizes to create diverse scales of exhibition space inside.
