클라이언트는 프로젝트를 시작할 때 설계팀에 ‘카이신노이치게키(かいしんのいちげき, 회심의 일격)’라는 라면 전문점의 이름만 알렸다.
그 외에는 설계팀이 자유롭게 디자인할 수 있도록 했다.
‘카이신노이치게키’는 사람들에게 향수를 불러일으키고 비디오게임을 떠올리게 하는 옛 RPG 게임(Roll-Playing Game)의 대표 구호다.
디자인은 점과 저해상도, 독특한 익숙함으로 그려진 초기 비디오게임의 요소들에서 영감을 얻되, 너무 유치한 분위기가 되지 않도록 추상성을 가미했다.
식당에 사용된 자재들은 흰색 세라믹 타일, 목재, 시멘트, 카펫 타일 등으로, 일반적이고 저렴한 것들이다.
공간 디자인이 비디오게임에 영감을 받았다고 말하는 것 자체도 진부하게 들릴 수 있다.
그러나 이런 평범한 소재들의 형태와 결합은 이곳에서만 볼 수 있는 독특성을 부여한다.
일본어 ‘쓰케멘(つけめん)’은 이 식당의 시그니처 메뉴이며, 국물에 적셔 먹는 라면을 의미한다.
간판에 붙은 이 글자는 픽셀 아트를 3D로 개발한 입체적 형태로 만들어졌다.
목재를 쌓아 노란색으로 채색한 정육면체일 뿐이지만 입체적인 형태로 디자인 콘셉트를 명확히 나타내고, 지나가는 이들의 시선을 사로잡는다.
클라이언트는 상판을 지저분하게 만드는 조미료를 많이 올려 두지 않길 원했으므로 서랍처럼 감춰 둘 수 있는 디자인을 요청했다.
하지만 설계팀은 조미료 하나하나가 게임 속에서 획득할 수 있는 아이템처럼 보이면 좋을 것 같다고 생각했다.
조미료 받침대를 디자인함으로써 조미료 통을 많이 놓는 것이 감춰 두는 것보다 디자인을 더욱 돋보이게 한다는 걸 증명했다.
디자인 주요 방향은 07BEACH가 게임에서 받은 영감으로 결정되었다.
각 요소가 얼마나 매력적으로 보일 수 있을지에 대한 디자인 연구가 축적되어 이 공간만의 특별한 분위기가 조성되었다.
At the beginning of the project, the client told the design team the name of the Ramen shop, “Kaishin No Ichigeki(decisive blow)”
and they were free to design the rest. “Kaishin No Ichigeki” is a signature phrase from a famous old RPG that brings to mind nostalgic video games for everyone.
The design was inspired by the early video games which are drawn with dots, low-resolution,
and uniquely familiar. While taking inspiration from games, not to be too a childish game atmosphere, designed abstractly to some extent.
The materials used in this restaurant are commonplace and inexpensive such as white ceramic tile, wood, cement,
and carpet tile. It may also sound cliché to say that the space is inspired by video games,
but the combination and forms of these ordinary materials make the space unique that can only be found here.
The Japanese word “つけめん(Tsukemen)”, dipping noodles which are the signature of this shop,
on the signboard is made up of cubes, like 3D development of pixel art.
It is just wooden cube stacked and painted yellow, but by considering the sign as a three-dimensional form,
it clearly represents the design concept and catches the attention of passersby.
