프로타고니스트 Protagonist
프로타고니스트(Protagonist)는 우크라이나 하르키우에 위치한 카페 겸 바다.
자신을 표현하고 아이디어를 공유하려는 창의적이고 상상력이 풍부한 사람들에게 아지트가 되어준다.
이곳엔 오래된 마감재를 벗겨낸 콘크리트 기둥이 있다.
바닥 타일 뒷면의 복잡한 문양과 천장의 질감을 드러내기 위함이다.
설계팀은 이들 요소를 보존하면서 건물 원래의 건축 디자인을 강조했다.
그들의 과제는 공간을 나누고 동선을 정리하는 것이었다.
따라서 방의 뒷면은 기술영역으로, 파노라마 창문을 끼고 있는 중심부는 주요 식사공간이 되었다.
다수의 그룹 고객을 수용할 수 있는 공용 테이블이 방 한가운데 있고, 대형 바는 테이블 왼편에 자리한다.
테이블 오른편에는 DJ 자리가 마련되어 있고, 안락의자와 소파가 2인용 작은 테이블과 함께 놓인 좌석은 파노라마 창문을 따라 DJ 뒤편에 배치되었다.
공용 테이블을 제외하고 대부분의 가구들은 balbek bureau의 가구 브랜드 propro가 디자인하고 제작했다.
유행하는 빈티지 디자인이라는 주제의 흔적이 공간 전체에서 발견된다.
오래된 건물을 철거하는 과정에서 얻게 된 강화유리 소재의 벽 패널과 빈티지 라디오그램(라디오 겸용 전축)을 현대화해 만든 DJ 제어판에서 그 흔적을 엿볼 수 있다.
뒷벽에 부착된 낡은 거울은 사물을 다중화하고 관점을 더하면서 시각적 무한성의 효과를 낸다.
DJ 콘솔은 구소련 시절의 라디오그램을 현대화한 것이다.
설계팀은 라디오그램을 둘로 절단하고, 없어진 부속을 현대 소재로 만들어 덧입혔다.
전선은 라디오그램 다리에 내장시켰고, 음향 제어장치는 라디오그램 내부에 감췄다.
공간에서 주목할 만한 요소는 공용 테이블 위에 매달려 있는 조명기구로, 사람이 많을 때는 천장 쪽으로 들어 올려지고 테이블은 유리벽 쪽으로 운반된다.
조명기구는 의도적으로 상당히 복잡한 형태로 제작되었다.
화장실의 금속 프레임은 필요한 모든 액세서리를 질서정연하게 보관하고 감추기 위해 서류정리함 모양으로 디자인되었다.
화장실 내부도 공간 전체의 주제에 맞추어 벗겨낸 타일 디자인을 특징으로 한다.
파사드는 단순하고 수수하다. 실내공간과 조화를 이루는 어두운 외벽은 알루미늄 합성 패널로 마감되었다.
주 출입구 옆에 개방된 테라스에는 걸터앉을 수 있는 기다란 자리가 있어 거리를 오가는 사람들을 끌어당긴다.
Protagonist is a café-bar located in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
It is a hangout place for the creative and imaginative people,
to share ideas and express themselves. There are concrete pillars that the design team stripped of old finishes to reveal the
beauty of the ceiling’s textures and intricate backside prints of previously removed floor tiles. These were the
key elements they wanted to preserve, emphasizing the original architectural design of the building.
One of their tasks was to divide the space into functional zones and process flows.
Thus, they designated the back of the room as a technological zone, while the central part along panoramic windows became the main dining area.
A communal table that can accommodate large groups was placed in the middle of the room, and a full-size bar was positioned to
the left of the table. They stationed the DJ to the right side of the table, while armchairs and sofas with small tables for
two were placed behind the DJ, along with panoramic windows. With exception of the communal table,
most of the furniture elements were designed and produced by propro, balbek bureau’s furniture brand.
