리투아니아 빌뉴스에 버려져 있던 한 건물이 문화단지로 개조됐다.
이곳은 커뮤니티와 자치정부의 원칙에 따라 리투아니아 학제간 예술연합(Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Art Union)이 운영한다.
특정 공간은 건축적, 문화적 교육 분야에서 활동하는 ‘건축재단’을 위해 지정되었고, 방은 사무공간, 회의 장소 및 갤러리로 사용된다.
설계팀은 이 공간들을 작은 영역으로 분리하지 않았다.
대신 역동적인 설치물을 제안, 다양한 기능을 부여하고 영역을 구분하기로 했다.
이에 따라 실내공간은 필요에 따라 여러 형태로 변할 수 있는 가변성을 지닌다.
이러한 기능적 설치물은 건물의 과거 흔적과 더불어 그 특성을 관찰할 수 있는 투명한 레이어로 구현됐고,
실내공간은 문화단지 전체의 미적 분위기를 품은 필수적인 부분으로 자리했다.
건축재단의 개인 작업공간은 복도에 내놓을 수 있는 투명한 구조물로 경계가 규정된다.
구조물은 재단 활동과 관련된 설명을 하는 데 사용되기도 하는데,
구조물이 한쪽으로 치워져 있다는 것은 건물의 방문객에게 공간이 열려 있는 상태라는 걸 알리는 메시지이다.
실내공간을 넓게 만들고자 기능요소들은 벽과 평행하게 배치했고, 고정된 위치에서는 갤러리용으로 사용된다.
기능요소를 펼쳐서 꺼내면 사무영역에서 필요한 용도로 활용이 가능하다.
실내공간에 사용된 자재는 구조 자체를 구성하는 건축물을 상징하고, 디테일들은 공상으로 쉽게 다시 만들 수 있는 누락된 요소들과의 관련성을 표현한다.
프로젝트는 전체 건물 단지의 환경에 크게 의존하면서도, 변형할 수 있는 기능을 이용해 실용적 방식으로 문제를 극복하는 설계를 보여준다.
나아가 디자인을 통해 사적 작업영역과 공적 영역 사이의 경계를 희미하게 만든다.
The project takes place in Vilnius city, in former abandoned buildings which are now in use for the cultural complex established by
Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Art Union operating on the principles of community and self-government.
The particular space is designated for the “Architecture Foundation” which works in the field of architectural and
cultural education. The room is used as an office workplace, a meeting place and a gallery.
In the project, the design team choose to accommodate different functions and zones without dividing
the space into separate cabinets instead they proposed a dynamic installation.
In this way, the interior space transforms into the different shapes, depending on the needs.
These new functional objects are realized as a transparent layer allowing to observe the nature of the building with its past signs.
Therefore, the interior takes over the aesthetic atmosphere of the whole complex and becomes an integral part of it.
The Architectural foundation’s private workspace is defined by a transparent object that is pushed out into the hall during
the working hours. The object itself can carry on a relevant exposition from the activities of the foundation.
An act of extrusion is a communication message that the space is open for visitors of the building. To make the inside room spacious,
the functional elements are placed parallel to the walls. At the steady position, they serve for gallery.
Unfolded and taken out, they form an environment for various office needs. Materials used in the interior represent
the construction body that makes up the architecture itself. The details express links to missing elements that are easily recreated by fantasy.
